Join PPM, in support of SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association) and their annual Cirencester slog 10-mile trail run, taking place at Cirencester Park Sunday 5th October. As a proud sponsor of this year’s event, we encourage you to take part or donate.
SARA is a local inshore lifeboat and inland search and rescue organisation run by a committed tem of volunteers. The charity covers the River Severn, its estuary, and the surrounding areas.
This years fundraising is focused on Cotswolds flood rescue capability. The UK experienced its wettest period on record last year. In addition, the Environment Agency estimates that one in four properties in England is at risk of flooding. This includes risks from rivers, the sea, or surface water. This risk is expected to grow as a result of climate change. The number of properties at risk of flooding from surface water alone may rise by 30% in the coming decades.
Flooding can disrupt daily life. It can cut off access to food and medicine. Community and healthcare workers might not be able to reach patients. Businesses may also be unable to operate. In the worst cases, people need to be rescued from their homes.
With a staggering 13 named storms between April 2023 and March 2024, our community needs to be prepared. SARA wants to provide that preparedness. The goal is to equip crew members with essential gear. This includes drysuits, helmets, and rescue rafts. In the worst-case scenario, this equipment could be the difference between safety and danger.
Martin Ryan, Managing Director of Pulse Power and Measurement Ltd (PPM) said:
PPM is incredibly proud to once again sponsor the Cirencester Slog. This year’s event is particularly meaningful as it supports the vital flood rescue capability of SARA Cotswolds. We are honoured to contribute to an organisation that provides such essential services to our neighbours, and we wish all the runners the very best of luck!
